A Flame Extinguished

My short story, “A Flame Extinguished,” recently appeared on Fiction365.

It’s a story about a middle-aged man who is stood up at a business meeting and is surprised when a much younger woman begins to flirt with him. He reminisces about his younger days hitting on girls at bars in futile attempts to get laid but those days are long behind him. Now he’s got a wife and a job and children and high cholesterol. He views the whole spectacle of this misguided young woman hitting on him as a nice ego boost…until he loses control of the situation.

It’s a story about the dangers of domestication and how certain flames never quite die…and how others go out without us ever even noticing.
