Rant: The Tragedy Whore Strikes Again

America the tragedy whore strikes again…

People may take offense to what I’m about to say, but the Colorado movie theater shooting is not a national tragedy and should stop being treated as such. It’s certainly a tragic event, but it’s a local tragedy that does not need to be glorified by the national media machine.

I don’t need to hear every minuscule detail about the shooting.

I don’t need to hear the life stories of the victims.

And I certainly don’t want to hear the president address the shooting in any way.

People like to blame violent video games and movies for real-world violence, but one of the biggest culprits is the national media. They are glorifying this psychopath, which is exactly what he wants. He’s a pathetic loser who went to extremes to draw attention to himself, to feel powerful and important and the media is giving him exactly what he wants. I don’t know what the killer’s name is (by choice) and no one else should either. There should be a law that any killer who goes on one of these random shooting sprees remains anonymous in the news coverage.

Think about it from the killer’s perspective: the president commented on what he did, he’s put fear in the hearts of movie-goers across the nation, and he’s probably going to change movie theater security the same way Columbine changed school security. In short, he’s won! He did exactly what he set out to do which is gain power over others and draw attention to himself. And we’ve given him that power. We’ve transformed an evil person into a role model for other pathetic losers who want to perform the same kind of disgusting act.

I beg everyone to get your damn flags up to full mast and quit being such a bunch of pussies for Christ’s sake. The attacks of 9/11 were a national tragedy; this is not. Maybe if the general public grew a backbone and quit playing the part of the helpless victim pieces of garbage like this would think twice about committing such atrocities. The real problem with this country is that there are too many real-life villains and victims and not enough heroes.

Where the hell are all the heroes?
